Idea Napkin 2

Note: some things have remained the same as my first idea napkin

1) Who am I? Aspects that relate to my business concept
    Talents, passions, experience, and ambitions...
·       Gymnast – prior experience in elite athletics, now a student athlete on the UF Gymnastics team
·       Vegetarian passionate about eating healthy and helping others make good food choices as well – I put a lot of time and effort into fueling myself properly so I can do the best gymnastics I am capable of!
·       Food blogger who creates (mostly) healthy recipes and posts them on my blog Zest & Finesse
·       Media manager for aha Pure Foods – a Gainesville start-up soup company dedicated to spreading the message “food is medicine”
·       I’m ambitious, positive, and energetic
·       I strive to make the world a happier, healthier place

If I started this business, I would be able to combine several of my passions – namely athletics and eating healthy – to help others, which I find great satisfaction in doing.

2) What are you offering to customers? I am offering a meal delivery service to help athletes get the fuel they need, so they can focus more on training.  The details…
·       4 dinners per week ($32 total) for 1 or 2 people
·       With fresh produce and wholesome ingredients
·       Vegetarian with suggestions for added meat
·       Delivered in a package at the beginning of the week
·       Each dinner can be prepared in less than 20 minutes
·       Options to include pre-prepared lunches and healthy snacks

3) Who are you offering it to? I am offering it to anyone who works out a lot and has high nutritional demands, namely student-athletes, professional athletes, and.   They have busy lifestyles and strive to be fit, healthy individuals.  I imagine most of my customers would fall between the ages of 18 and 45.  There are people like this all around the world, but I would first focus my efforts on local customers in Gainesville.

4) Why do they care? Athletes will be able to spend less time worrying about getting healthy meals into their bodies, so they can focus more on training. This will ultimately help my customers reach their goals!

5) What are your core competencies?  There are no other meal delivery services geared toward athletes on the market.  The greater balance of complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats to enhance performance and recovery sets my business apart.  Other companies do not offer such benefits.   In addition, I will offer pre-prepped lunches and wholesome snacks as part of meal packages.  This is new to the meal delivery business.

Summary
I believe the elements of my business concept fit together very well.  My personal skills and experience harmonize perfectly with what I want to accomplish in this business.  As a student-athlete myself, I understand the motivations many of my customers share.  Thus, I have attempted to align my solution to what my customers care about, and I will continue to match up my offerings to their lifestyle and preferences. Lastly, I have found an unoccupied market niche to focus my efforts!

Feedback Memo:
The main concerns commenters made on my first idea napkin had to do with competing with existing services. Perhaps I did not do a good enough job describing what I am offering to customers on the first idea napkin, so I added to this section for clarity. I received multiple comments comparing my idea to DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other services of the like. However, what I am offering is more like Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, and Marley Spoon, but specifically formulated for athletes. In response to a comment made about competing with these brands, I have focused in on what sets my business apart: performance enhancing nutritional balance, vegetarian options, and additional products (healthy snacks and grab-and-go lunches).
Also, a few people made comments that they would totally use the product, even though they are not so-called “athletes.” Thus, I included all active individuals in my description of who I am offering it to.

  1. Hi Leah, this is a really great blog post. I liked how you said you would start your business in Gainesville and then you said you would target people between the ages of 18-45. This is a great idea due to the fact Gainesville is a college town and a large majority of the people living here fall into the age group you gave in your blog post. However, I do have a concern for your business. What will you doing when it is summer because that is when Gainesville is essentially a ghost town?

  2. Hi Leah!

I think you did a great job adapting to your feedback. I agree that targeting athletes is great, but we never want to leave any potential customers out. Also, I like that you explained how your business concept is different than what is currently out on the market. Your experience as a UF gymnast springs your competitive advantage! It's awesome!

  3. Hey Leah! I think that this idea napkin 2 has definitely progressed and gotten much more clearer and directive than the first one! I like how you clearly explain your differentiation and target market!

  4. I think you made some great changes from your first idea napkin that includes more detail, like about your competitors. I think your meal plan is far from any competition and although I am not an athlete, I do go to the gym daily. I'm wondering would I fit your average customer although I'm not an athlete? For example I track my macros, and try to get in as much protein as possible. I would explain how your service would affect people who are like me- health conscious, active lifestyle and in college. Great post!

  5. Hey Leah,

I believed your idea napkin 1 was good but this one was even better with the improvements you made on it. I think that you improved on stating your overall message and what your product was all about so that your readers better understood what you were selling. I also believe you have a strong target marketing and Gainesville would be ideal for you to try and start something if you wish to do that.

  6. Leah,

Excellent work. You can tell that your idea is very well thought out. I really enjoyed reading your post and noticing the improvements you have made. You explain very well who your target market is and also who your competitors are. You should continue to further develop and improve this idea as I think that it could be extremely successful. Your thorough approach will be key to improvements in the future. I would enjoy your product and I am sure others would love to hear about how they could benefit from it, as well.
